Knowledge is da bomb...isn't that what they say?

I love facts, I don't care if they are useless.  Recently I've been seeing loads of infographics floating around on Pinterest and while I already had a board called 'Did you know', I wanted to create a dedicated board to the infographic. Check out my new board 'Peddling the information highway'.

One of my favourites is Human Body 18 Amazing Facts.

This one came from Daily Infographic, they have loads of interesting infographics, check them out and maybe you could set up an infographics board.

"All yours, Babooshka, Babooshka, Babooshka-ya-ya!"  I can just hear her now...back in the 80s I loved Kate Bush and I loved this song.

I guess I always had a thing for these cuties and so began my Pinterest board 'Babushkas'.

So get this, these little babies are also know as Matryoshka dolls! But did you know there are few different ways to spell Babushkas? Here's Wikipedia's description...

"Babushka or baboushka or babooshka from Russian: ба́бушкаIPA: [ˈbabʊʂkə]  meaning "grandmother" or "old woman") may also refer to:

  • A Western term for a woman's headscarf tied below the chin in the Eastern European manner.
  • Babushka, an alias of Russian revolutionary Catherine Breshkovsky
  • Babushka Adoption Foundation
  • "Babooshka", a song by Kate Bush
  • The story of Baboushka and the Three Kings
  • Babushka doll, a commonly misused name for Matryoshka doll
  • Babushka Lady is a nickname for an unknown woman who might have photographed the events that occurred in Dealey Plaza in Dallas at the time President John F. Kennedy was shot
  • Buranovskiye Babushki, a Russian ethno-pop band containing eight elderly women from Buranovo, Udmurtia."

Nowadays they are not just a stacking doll but are used in many different ways...

I like this but I also love the more traditional use for the Babushkas.

Babushkas are still a very popular pin on Pinterest. Having just done a search, I think I'll go repin some of these lovelies...

I thought I would share one of my more recent boards, simply named Mercury Glass.  I just adore mercury glass and have only recently started collecting it.

I was fortunate enough to receive these beautiful mercury glass candlesticks from my parents for Christmas.

I love them and they come from the fabulous Cox and Cox.

Mercury glass does not seem as easy to get over here in England as it seems in the US but thank goodness for good old Ebay where there are many listing that are sold from the US.

Do you have any collections?

Good afternoon, the sun is shining outside and all is well!

St Patrick's day is this Saturday and although my Mum is half Irish we don't really celebrate St Pat's day. On Wednesday at cubs this week we will be playing games related to St Patrick's day and tasting Irish food, but that's all the celebrating I'll be doing.

History.com say the following about St Patrick;

St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is one of Christianity's most widely known figures. But for all his celebrity, his life remains somewhat of a mystery. Many of the stories traditionally associated with St. Patrick, including the famous account of his banishing all the snakes from Ireland, are false, the products of hundreds of years of exaggerated storytelling.

I started my board on Pinterest in honour of St Patrick's day and all things Irish a year ago....Top of the morning to ya

I love these magnets, such a lovely gift to give someone on St Patrick's day...you could use this idea for so many other celebrations too! TTFN ~x~

Pinterest passion...

Last year I was really into my Pinterest boards, really into building new boards on what seemed like a daily basis. I was browsing various blogs and came across a blog called Just little things and I was pretty much blown away with the simplicity of the blog theme and how many and I mean many of the posts hit home for me.

In the words of Nancy, the blogger:

This is a blog listing little things we should appreciate. These are life's simple pleasures that are commonly overlooked. And possibly daily sources of happiness that are right under your nose.

I thought this was a great idea and decided to set up a Pinterest board solely for this blog's posts...Appreciate the little things

I have to say I've been a bit naughty and not pinned much to this board for some time, but that's okay because there is a superb archive available for me to find the most appealing 'little things' to me.

Here's some of my favourites:

Seriously, this is a great blog and could potentially be a "daily sources of happiness that are right under your nose."  Go check it out TTFN ~x~

I just love a comfy chair, don't you? There are so many variations out there from the sublime to the ridiculous...and there are some truly ridiculous chairs. That being said I prefer the more inviting ones, the colourful ones, the classic ones...I could go on!

This weeks Pinterest passion is devoted to my love of chairs...An armchair calls to you

I picked this one out of the many I have pinned for two reasons. Number one is the colour, that gorgeous duck egg blue calls to me (I have a thing for all things duck egg blue!) and number two is the fact that this chair can be shared, I could see myself cuddled up on this with the hubby watching a movie...sounds dreamy! Did you know that I'm quite partial to a bit of denim? Actually I think denim is cool and I love upcycling it.

My kids live in denim jeans and when my youngest grows out of them I don't throw them away or donate them to charity, they go in a sack ready to make cushions or use for other bits of craft.

So that being said, this weeks board pays homage to my passion for denim......And in your denim eyes

This image came from a Norwegian interior design blog called Nib, I just love how every part of the jeans have been used to cover this chair and footstool.

I'm not so sure this would fit in with my decor but would be great in a kids room! My denim board has loads of other denim ideas, check it out! TTFN ~x~

I must be mad...

I spent most of Saturday night reorganising my Pinterest boards into alphabetical order...and this is probably the third or fourth time I've done this, I must be mad. That or hooked completely on Pinterest! and yes I know I could be doing more with my Saturday nights, I have children people!!!

I also removed some boards that I had yet to fill. Of course it would be silly of me to say I won't be creating any new ones.....I just can't help myself.....maybe I need therapy? TTFN ~x~

Happy Valentines to you all! I hope you are all being spoilt rotten by your loved ones?

In the spirit of Valentines, this weeks board is....Love is in the air

This pin is a recent one, it combines all the things I love including buttons, the colours red and pink, and vintage images.

I think this would be pretty simple to replicate and I would probably try to as I think £50 is a bit too much for me to pay but maybe you would?? If so you can purchase it from Cowboys and Custard who have a shop on Not on the high street.com.

Don't you just love that name? Cowboys and Custard....they have some lovely handmade cards with badges on, so go check it out. TTFN ~x~

I am a self confessed Pin-a-holic, I could pin all day and all night and unlike my friend Sarah over at Stuffed Duck, I can't think of it as a waste of time, sorry Sarah you know what I'm like.

I thought it might be nice to share some of my favourite pins from the many Pinterest boards I have. Now this is how my thought process works, 'why don't I do a weekly post for each board'.  Now bear with me because this could be a regular thing for the next 5 years!!

Anyhoo, here goes the first board, in no particular order........The rise of the robots

I just love this screen print and it's so reasonable at £35. Unfortunately, it is no longer available but the shop Mengsel on Folksy sells other fabulous screen print items, go check them out! TTFN ~x~

My Love of a Wreath....

As you may be aware, I'm a bit mad about wreaths and in a previous post I told you about the wreath I was in the process of making....well I'm still in the process of making that one!!  However, in the meantime I have made  this cute yarn wrapped wreath.

I need to restock my Folksy shop, Doodle Dandy,  and I found lots of inspiration on my Pinterest board, A Wreath to Remember.

I wrapped the polystyrene wreath in a lovely grey yarn, which I did over a few evenings....it may have been quicker but half way through the process I had a complete melt down with the yarn which had become knotted and very messy, so I had to sort that out first!

Then I decided I was going to put a cute white felt flower on it, I basically cut some petal shapes out and kept sewing them together until I was happy.  I finished the flower with a small pearl embellishment.

I wasn't entirely sure if it was going to be a shelf wreath or hanging wreath, but went with the hanging wreath in  the end and made a plaited yarn hanging ribbon.

Well here it is, I'm really pleased with it, but a little unsure of the hanging medium.....hmmm....then just gotta decide how much to charge for it on Doodle Dandy! TTFN ~x~

A Wreath to Remember ...

Well now that I've finished my cushion, I need something else to get my teeth into.

I've been pinning away on Pinterest and one of my boards is called A Wreath to Remember, basically it has all the wreaths I find pinned to it, my inspiration! I'm going on about it I know, but I'm building up to my next project.

One of my colleagues at work, Sam, has been making birch wreaths for a few years now and we had a discussion a while back about collaborating and using her wreaths for something....so she makes the wreath and I'll decorate it.  I bought a wreath from Sam last week and I have been busy making flowers and leaves to adorn it.....I'm upcycling too! Using an old pair of white linen maternity trousers......lets just say it is highly unlikely I'll need them again, lol.

Anyway, I'll post a picture when its finished rather than show you a part way through piccie! TTFN ~x~
